Therapy and Counselling for Teens and Adolescents
Barbara Vaughan is an MBACP accredited integrative Teen and adolescent counsellor and psychotherapist supporting young people in Hythe, Folkestone and across East Kent. A calm, confidential space to explore difficult feelings, make sense of experiences and develop ways to cope.
Therapeutic Support Shaped around Each Young Person
Over the last three years, Barbara has specialised in therapeutic work with secondary-age young people, supporting adolescents with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. Building on more than a decade of experience working with children, she offers thoughtful, age-appropriate support. Every session is tailored to the individual, their unique circumstances and the pace that feels right for them.
Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
Support for young people who feel anxious, low, angry, overwhelmed or confused. Together, we can gently explore what may sit beneath these feelings, including past and present events, areas of inner conflict, and patterns that are difficult to understand. As an integrative therapist I can select a mode of therapy that will be the most beneficial.
Understanding Feelings and Behaviours
Therapy can help young people make sense of experiences such as panic attacks, compulsions or obsessions, emotional outbursts and self-harm. Through compassionate conversation and practical strategies, they can build insight, resilience and coping mechanisms for everyday life. Helping young people understand how their distress manifests both in behaviours and within the body is an important part of Barbara's therapeutic work.
Neurodiversity, Identity and Belonging
Affirming therapeutic support is available for young people who are diagnosed as, or suspect they may be, neurodivergent. Barbara also welcomes young people who are exploring their gender or sexual identity, providing space to be heard without judgement.
Trauma-Informed Therapy and EMDR
Barbara supports young people who have experienced trauma. She is certified to use EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), an established trauma therapy offered for young people aged 15 and over where it is clinically appropriate.
